Invitation

You are not invited, but only because I know you wouldn't come anyways...
I tried to keep it classy and a little sassy.

a musical interlude

I love this
it whispers to me somehow
I can still hear it over my
everyday chaos

My apparent Achilles heel

Friday morning is a wild one.
My teacher on Friday is a guy who really loves 80's music.
He makes his own mixes and is a former gym rat so there is often some random cardio thing thrown into the normal rotation of salutations and poses.
Most mornings I giggle to myself remembering where I was or what life was like when I hear the songs. Mostly Jr High and High school...torment!!
The songs are often heavy on emotion and fluffy, ya know a good 80's John Hughes film kind of thing.

Last week he threw in a vintage Michael Jackson song:

I was amused and glad to hear an old school MJ song that I remember from childhood.
I smiled during the flow and nodded my head, tapped my hands.

This morning though, this morning was different.
I got to class early, had a little small talk with the teacher about this cool article I saw, and sat in the room before class to warm up with the room.
I was breathing and thinking about how sleepy I still was, but was here to do my best.
I don't have to be good at it, I just have to do.

The class filled up, each of us in our places and we started the warm up...the music started and I felt a twitch. Then I started to smile...and I lost count of my breath.
What was happening?!
Over the speaker system was this song and then the dance mix of this song followed
Before I could do anything, she burst forth....
he had found my apparent Achilles heel and my inner 13 year old self could not contain her joy and glee and as I pressed into my down-dog she began to sing along with the music!!
She knew all the words and dance moves.

How embarrassing, she was totally embarrassing me....
I could see her dancing around the room to the song and singing to herself in her bedroom mirror.

I checked my reflection and although I was only mouthing the words
my inner teenager was making a scene ....
finally I just let her play
Why was I trying to stop her?
I watched her set free her joy and it was amazing

Wordless Wednesday

I love me some good funk, and this is one of the videos wandering around the Internets of
"how to dance to the new Daft Punk album" made my day and made me remember
dancing with the Soul Train dancers Saturday mornings.
Get that booty moving:

Meditations

I love to listen to Mahalia Jackson on Sunday, especially in the studio.
She makes me feel weepy and empowered,
strange combo but those are the closest words I can use to describe the way she moves me.
I feel like I can accomplish things and succeed.

I am still on a printing frenzy, I am taking it as a sign that I am working things out...in some way
I am very superstitious as you know, so I hesitate admitting this.

I am relaxing my timeline and expectations more and so far it seems to be working.
I wish you a happy Sunday, and hope sometime today you can find some peace with yourself
A smile, and a surprise
Let Mahalia sing into you...so sweet and inspiring

Laughter...and space

So yesterdays post was heavy, I sat in it all day and went to bed with it.
This morning, I took my time waking up at 5:30am-into a rolling blackout for my area.
I couldn't open the garage door"easily" so I lingered in bed and whispered with The Barren, until the lights came back on. Then I got into the shower...washed my hair and got dressed for a day of work.

No earth shattering big moves or discoveries except I did it. I chose to keep moving forward...I dozed on the way into work as The Barren drove and got an almond crossant to eat with tea for breakfast and then started work.
I did that....continued to move forward.

I did some work and then found this on a blog I read about artists and it made me laugh, and feel ownership of myself and my work.

“I’m in my late 40’s, I’ve got nothing to prove, so I’m going to make whatever the fuck I want.”
 http://inthemake.com/randy-colosky/

I have nothing to prove, I just need to move and make what I am overwhelmed to.
simply plan, simple road to happiness

I am currently obsessed with this song, I feel like a monkey listening to it, bobbing up and down
to the beat....so dance my fellow monkeys, dance!

Fighting it all

So I am sure a few of you might have picked up on me fighting some blues these days...
maybe it is a post travel blues thing, maybe it is the creative slump I am in
whatever it is I am fighting it tooth and nail and
trying to find what the switch is and how to turn it in another direction.
The girls day was nice, but I felt so unbelievably lonely when the ladies all went home.
It was like my house was three times quieter and I was sitting there with plates of half eaten food, buzzing from 4 or more cups of tea.
Hubby was gone and I had no one to call...so I left the house and went to wander.
I left he house in an effort to not sit in front of the tv and then hours later
wonder " what have I been doing with my life?"
I went to the music store.
Yes, I still buy music from an independent music store, I buy whole CD's worth of music and I love LOVE cruising thru bins and aisles of music.
Thank goodness for the "music listening stations" or else I would buy music based on my aesthetic whims and
that has not turned out well in the past.

I bought two CD's I have been thinking about:
The Civil Wars

and the newest
 Radio Head
I am not totally in love with either yet.
but they are growing on me...

In the meantime I got three TOTALLY AWESOME hand mixed CD's from Nicole
I literally cried, I was so touched and excited. What a superhero that woman is!

This last Friday I got to have a date night with hubby. I took him out to dinner and then we were going to see a movie, but the movie we wanted to see got panned and we were not intoxicated enough to forgive that off so we skipped the film and ended up in the music store again.
This time we both spent a good bit of time finding little gems.
Hubby listens to a lot of metal; I can list his purchases if you are interested
We listen to a wide range of music to say the least
This time I bought these albums:
Foster the People

James Brown

Tennis

Cults
I can say I am happier out the gate with these
For me, Music is good, it helps me in moods that I can not seem to control.
Like a scout, leading me through emotions that I either need to deal with or need to walk past.

Needless to say, I am still fighting my fight, but now I have a better soundtrack then my mean voices looping and trying to set me into a downward tailspin

Musical Interlude

I don't care if they really made the music this way...it feeds the Rube Goldberg geek in me.

Promises

I am working in the studio today and for some reason this just felt right...

ONO - No, No, No (Tom Novy Vocal Mix) by YokoOno

Her description of what inspired the song hit home:

NO, NO, NO was written and sung by a woman who was in such a pain that her heart was cracking while she kept her mind clear so she could survive for herself and for her son. Of course that was me - right after John passed away. When John was still alive, he kept whispering to Sean that he will always be there for Sean and protect him. So when John left, Sean kept saying "Promise is made to be broken." Making it light than what it was. He was in pain. Sean loved this song. Each time when I sung "I don't remember what you promeeesed" and elongated the end of it, he used to let his body go down at the same time to the floor. I remember how hard it was for me to go through that period, especially, knowing how Sean was managing to hide his tears. Yoko

Long Long Long

It's been a long long long time,
How could I ever have lost you
When I loved you.

It took a long long long time
Now I'm so happy I found you
How I love you

So many tears I was searching,
So many tears I was wasting, oh. Oh--

Now I can see you, be you
How can I ever misplace you
How I want you
Oh I love you
You know that I need you.
Ooh I love you.

Beatles Song, White Album, Lyrics George Harrison
